In Lamitan City, a special program was designed to facilitate mainstreaming of MILF combatants and their immediate families. The first ever project for MILF in BARMM.
Learning Acceleration for Peace and Inclusive Sevices or better known as LAPIS Program was crafted by MBHTE Division of Lamitan City headed by SDS Myra Borja-Mangkabung in collaboration with the City Government of Lamitan headed by Mayor Rose Uy-Furigay in partnership with government line agencies and civil society organizations.
LAPIS is a holistic package of services such as alternative learning system (ALS), technical skills development (TESDA courses), livelihood and agriculture, health and sanitation, peace education, leadership and governance, youth development and more…
Now with more than 200 ALS learners from MILF community under the leadership of Commander Rajan Abdurahman and Battalion Commander Nasir Antah; LAPIS aimed to replace firearms with pens and papers. Education now is of utmost importance among members of MILF community and for BARMM to attain sustainable peace, human security and development.
LAPIS was launched last September 23, 2019 at Datu Dizal Cultural Center, Lamitan City, Basilan.
